Some Things To Know About Ornamental And Liriope Grass

So many people are choosing to use liriope to make their yard beautiful. This is a very popular genus of plant that has a way of keeping low to the ground, looks like a lot of other grasses, and has flowers that bloom on it at a certain time of the year. It is from South and Southeast Asia that this plant originates from, and is just one of the many types of ornamental and liriope grass that people are using to add beauty to their garden.

Many people are familiar with the Greek god Narcissus, who is famous for looking into a pond, seeing his own reflection, and falling in love with it, leading to his own demise of drowning. Fewer people know the name of this god's mother, who was a nymph born of river gods. It is from this spirit of nature that the genus of liriope gets its name.

It is not always easy to know the correct way to pronounce Liriope. Depending on the region, people say it differently, but most experts will be able to understand what you're talking about. Other common names are monkey grass, spider grass, and lilyturf, even though it is not related to the lily and is not in the same genus as grasses.

People who have these grasses in their yards enjoy watching their flowers start to bloom right around the time that summer is ending. Violet and blue are the most common color combinations for these flowers. There are plenty of varieties now too for those who want to add something flashy to their garden.

There are plenty of people who are choosing to go with some of the many exciting and beautiful types of ornamentals that are available. These are getting easier and easier to find because they have grown immensely in popularity for people's gardens are lawns in recent years. These plants are considered any kinds of grasses that are used for decorative purposes.

It can be very hard to keep plants alive in a garden or yard when the weather is just too cold to support most types of plant life. That is why people who live in these types of climates are very enticed when they hear that ornamentals are among the hardier of plants like this. They can survive the cold seasons and even in regions that stay cold all the time.

Although they are referred to as grasses, these plants are often not even in the same family as ordinary types of grasses. The reason why so many people refer to them this way is because they have similar physical properties to the common plant. Prime examples of these are cat-tails, rushes, and sedges.

Perennial plants are ones that go dormant during the cold seasons, so they will essentially take care of themselves during that time. They can then be seen coming back to life in the early springtime thanks to the stored energy that they save up to get them through this dormant period. Most of the ornamentals are perennial, but there are a few such as bamboo that are annual, meaning their whole life cycle is finished in about a year.
