Basics About Los Angeles Metalizing Business

Metalizing is the collective term that refers to processes through which metals are applied on other surfaces. The first instance of the process happened in 1835 and was used to make mirrors. The person credited for the discovery is Justus Von Liebig. Metalizing can be performed for functional, decorative, or protective purposes. Los Angeles metalizing businesses can achieve all the three purposes.

Today, there has been an increase in the versions of metalization that can be done. The achievement of such a great number of versions comes from improved technological know-how and the hard work of manufacturers. Some many materials can be metalized today without losing or lowering the levels of efficiency and perfection. Just to name some, glass, wood, metals, and plastics are the main examples. Which version of the process is used depends on the material in question because of differences in properties.

The variant of metallization being used and nature of substrates are among the factors that determine the final results achieved. Additionally, the metal to be metalized may also affect results. Aluminum has several suitable properties that make it the most used metal even though other metals are also being used. To begin with, the boiling point of aluminum is low, which cuts on the amount of energy needed to boil it. Secondly, the shiny nature of aluminum makes it suitable for improving the aesthetic properties of substrates.

The process happens inside a vacuum chamber at temperatures slightly above the boiling point of the metal being used to coat another surface. As the boiling temperature of the metal is reached, the metal evaporates to form fumes which then cool off and settle on the substrate. Substrate is a term used to refer to the object being metalized. The fumes form a thin uniformly distributed film over the substrate.

Depending on the version of metalizing being used, substrates may be used cold or hot. Warming is required in certain cases because it enhances the strength of the bond formed between the metal and substrate. Strong bonds last longer, hence offer protection for longer.

All industries such as household equipment, military, and electronics make use of metalizing in one way or another. Electronic devices have to be protected from external interference in form of electromagnetic interference, radio frequency interference, and electrical noise. All these interferences can affect performance of devices like computers and antennas. To prevent such interference from happening, a protective layer is metalized on the surfaces of the devices to protect them.

Coatings metalized on a surface can serve to protect it too. If corrosion is likely to occur on a device because of the environments it is used in, depositing a layer of metal helps to stop the corrosion. Metallization is used to deposit a film of metal on the surface. Example of such an application is in the water, where the bottoms of ships are metalized to avoid corrosion by water.

Another function of metallization is enhancing the beauty of objects. None metallic surfaces are made to look beautiful like metals by coating them with metals. Aluminum and gold are examples of metals that can make an object look very beautiful even if it was not initially. Additionally, metalizing a surface make it durable.
