We all have an origin, that is, where our ancestors came from or simply our roots. Everybody wants to know what happened in the past that led to their birth and what made them be where they are at the present moment. It is because of this that many scholars have emerged to try and put pieces together and explain the past so that our existence can have some sense. Black American history is the commonest past of human kind that has been described by scholars.
The African American history explains why there are two different types of people, in terms of their skin color, in the same country. The history says that the blacks were captives brought to the United States to work as slaves for the whites against their will.
Names such as colored or Negro were used to refer to the blacks because of their skin color. There used to be discrimination in those days in that there were different schools, churches, jobs etc. For the whites and blacks. This reached to a point whereby the whites lived and had everything that was considered good or better while the blacks had the bad or lowest of things.
It came to a time where the blacks decided that enough was enough. They protested to make their rights known. All they wanted was equal rights and treatment and to be considered as human beings just like everyone else. They wanted to go to the same schools, work at the same offices, go wherever they wanted and enjoy everything the whites did.
The fights and protests went on for a while until the two parties came into an agreement. People such as Martin Luther will always be remembered for the impact they made for the people of United States. He made a historic speech in the year nineteen sixty three where he said that he envisions a country in which the blacks and whites can exist together in peace and in a country where discrimination does not exist.
In the United States today, its citizens chose a dark skinned man to be their president. This was decided unanimously by both the blacks and whites. Racism and slavery stopped, even the names dark skinned people were called became a thing of the past. The two parties can now even marry each other without getting questioned about their skin colors.
Every February in the United States calendar is the African American month, where the history of the black people is remembered. The names that the dark skinned people were given before to refer to them are no longer used and anyone found using them faces serious problems with the law. Racists also do not have place in the country.
It has been seen that the past helps us knowing and identifying where we come from but it does not determine who we are or what will become, the most important thing is to focus on the future and let the past be.
